1955

Indigo Brands, based in Cape Town, is a subsidiary of AVI Limited (AVI). Indigo Brands, formerly known as Yardley of London (Africa) (Pty) Ltd, has been manufacturing and distributing Yardley cosmetic products in Southern Africa since 1955.

1992

Company purchased in 1992 by AVI Ltd from SmithKline Beecham

1998

Yardley of London went into liquidation and the trademark for Yardley (sub-Saharan Africa) was purchased by AVI. Aerosol Category launched in South Africa

2000

Licenses acquired for Coty (Rimmel, Adidas, Coty), Nailene.

2001

Registration of Indigo Cosmetics (Pty) Ltd – company becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of AVI (changes from a division). Creation of Indigo Brands Export Division.

2002

Licenses acquired for Coty Celebrity Fragrances, Puig Fragrances (Antonio Banderas, Mango).

2003

Purchase of Lenthéric global trademark. ISO accreditation and SAP implementation

2010

Restructure company to build a Prestige division with requisite exclusivity plus Personal Care division with focus on FMCG. September – Name change to Indigo Brands to address broader ambitions. Licenses acquired for Sally Hansen and Guess.

2012

State of the art aerosol plant built on site.

2014

Coty license agreement transition to trading agreement.

2020

Yardley turns 250 years old, officially being the oldest makeup & fragrance brand in the world.
